Growing up around celebrities, playing tennis at the Palm Springs Racquet Club for example, was good training for Harold "Buzz" Waltz, who ultimately photographed such stars as Frank Sinatra, Bob Hope, Bill Cosby, and many more. He clearly knew how to conduct himself at an early age, which prepared him for unique personality types including eccentric G. Gordon Liddy. Waltz was the only photographer allowed to take pictures of Liddy during and after one of the former Watergate player's lecture at the Marriott Desert Springs.

Now the owner of the oldest photography business in Palm Springs, his intentions were originally to become an architect rather than follow in his father's footsteps. He studied design and architecture at College of the Desert, which obviously helped make him the award-winning photographer that he is today (Waltz is the recipient of awards from the Professional Photographers of America and Professional Photography West). But after the senior Waltz' death in 1962, the son assumed the successful business and continued its growth and reputation for excellence.
